At only four months old, Shaylee became a tragic victim of child abuse, resulting in life-threatening injuries that led to her separation from her parents. In 2019, Shaylee was rushed to the hospital, where the doctor’s findings revealed she had suffered significant injuries, including blunt force trauma to her head and blood on her brain. These injuries have left her with cerebral visual impairment, post-traumatic epilepsy, a muscle disorder, and developmental delays. We firmly believe that if those around Shaylee had been more informed about child abuse awareness and the importance of reporting child abuse and neglect, she could have avoided the immense suffering she endures daily. Organizations like the S&C Family Centered Foundation provide vital support services for children and advocate for child welfare, emphasizing the need for kinship caregivers and community involvement in protecting vulnerable children like Shaylee.
The Shaylee Foundation was created to support and empower kinship caregivers who have taken on the responsibility of caring for children subjected to an unforeseen separation from their primary care provider. The foundation also raises awareness about child abuse and neglect through advocacy and education by providing additional support services and resources for all communities.
